week 3-1, assignment #1

After going through the website, Gamestar Mechanic, I realized that many teachers use games as a teaching tool for students. This means that through playing the game, students are learning something. It can be a wonderful thing for teachers to implement into their classrooms because it is by far very engaging for students. Children love playing games so they will not even feel like they are learning. However, whether they notice it or not, they are learning in the process. I saw many different games that teachers use for educational purposes. One of them I went through, I realized that it is a geat game for students to teach them problem solving skills in real-life situations. This is a very important skill for students to learn and by playing the game, they are actually going through the whole process themselves, step by step.

    I think that it is more than just PLAYING the game, the idea is that they get to DESIGN and CREATE games!

    Could not have agreed more! But now that I think more about it..what is wrong about learning to LEARN? It is so exciting to learn about the world and its people! let us give them that attitude so that they learn to love to learn without a screen at their side!

week 3-1, assignment #2 My philosophy on Gaming From the learner’s point of view, I would say that I love having games in the classroom; it is such a fun way of leaning! I think most learners would say the same. Which student does not like playing games? I think that every student would agree with me that learning through games is also much more engaging than learning the old fashion way of teacher lecturing or reading from a text book. From a teacher’s point of view, I would say that we must be very careful when using games for teaching purposes. For sure, I agree that gaming should be incorporated into the curriculum, but we have to be mindful that the games are enhancing the learning and not minimizing the learning.
